    As urbanization intensifies, the role of parks in fostering community health and equity has become more vital. Parks play a multifaceted role in the built environment, contributing to physical health, and also to mental well-being, social cohesion and environmental resilience. The Texas Healthy Parks Decision Support integrates parks with CDC PLACES data related to mental and physical health, social vulnerability and environmental health. Its design caters to the needs of community leaders, park providers and health providers to address health disparities and foster healthier communities.

  • Mapping Mental Health: Impact of Neighborhood Factors on Adolescent Well-Being
    Our cross-sectional study explores the impact of neighborhood characteristics on adolescent mental health. It highlights how psychosocial risk factors, such as gun violence and socioeconomic status, affect symptoms like depression and suicide risk. Using multivariate clustering, we categorize neighborhoods into high-stress, moderate-stress, and low-stress neighborhoods. Our findings reveal that adolescents in low-stress neighborhoods facing multiple risks experience the greatest mental health challenges, underscoring the urgent need for targeted interventions to support vulnerable youth.
